SECTION 1: Job Summary (Summary of the basic functions of the position)
Registered Nurse who provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients in
clinic with a focus on surgical procedures. Additional responsibilities to include Nurse Visits and
injectable procedures under the clinical supervision of a licensed medical provider; assists in examination
and treatment of patients under direction of Physician by performing the following duties:
SECTION 2: Duties and Responsibilities (Responsibilities necessary to accomplish job functions)

Ensures that all patients charts have been prepped prior to the visit

Interviews patients, takes patients' history, and records all information on patients' charts.

Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.

Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by provider, including patient and family instruction, includes verbal care instructions, pamphlets, instruction sheets, etc.

Responds to patients’ telephone calls and gives instructions from provider, documents all telephone calls with patients in chart.

Accurately records all pertinent information in patients’ chart timely

Responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol by having knowledge of equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location

Maintains examination and surgical suite(s), cleans rooms after each patient, and sterilizes equipment.

Inventories all medical supplies, maintains appropriate supply inventory in examination and surgical suite(s), stocks examination rooms and surgical suite(s) with all needed equipment and supplies.

Maintains solutions by expiration date, restocks examination room(s) and surgical suite(s) with solutions.

Adheres to all OSHA regulations and universal precautions, including waste and sharps disposal. Maintains knowledge of OSHA regulations and use of universal precautions as appropriate

Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.

Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization. Additional responsibilities in a surgical (ASC) capacity:

Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment
-
Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment
-
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, right drug and noting expiration date
-
Remains present in the OR with the patient until recovery and discharge guidelines have been met-see corresponding policies
-
Prepares patient(s) for physical exam/surgery by:
-
Properly identify the patient and cross check it with the chart and name band
-
Operative consent obtained
-
Photo consent obtained
-
Vital signs obtained
-
Administer medications as directed by physician
-
Proper documentation of any controlled substances
-
Prepare the surgical site
-
Placement of sterile drapes
-
Assists provider(s) as needed with patient care, including physical exam/surgery; hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.

Sets up examination rooms and surgical suite(s) for appropriate procedures, assembles and uses such equipment as electrocautery, lasers, and other equipment as needed.

Inspects sterile items prior to opening and lay supplies out on sterile field in an organized manner
-
Dresses wounds as instructed by provider.

Draws up medications that are to be used on sterile field following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, expiration date – done in cooperation with and in the presence of a provider.

Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

Assist physician with surgical procedure while maintaining sterile field
-
Assess the patient’s condition throughout the surgery according to intraoperative and postoperative monitoring policies and notify physician of any indication of distress.
Additional responsibilities in an injector capacity:

Performs the following procedures according to established protocols:

Neurotoxins

Dermal fillers

Develops a treatment plan for each patient

Sale of services and products

Maintains inventory-tracking system for all injectable

Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment

Explain treatment procedures, medications

Responsible for cleaning room and medical equipment in between each patient and at the end of the day.

Correctly disposes of infection waste and biohazard materials
-
Greet patients arriving at office or clinic.

Performs accurate documentation of all procedures in a timely manner
-
Be prepared for potential emergencies by having knowledge of equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location

Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.

Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
SECTION 3: Experience Requirements
-
One (1) year of plastic surgery experience, preferred
-
One (1) year of surgical procedures experience, preferred
-
One (1) year of injection procedures experience, preferred
SECTION 4: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
-
Skills in operating complicated surgical equipment and instruments.
-
Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and sterile technique, required.

Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable

Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function

Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations

Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and team mate support needs

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving

Basic to intermediate computer operation

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function

Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines
