The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit invites applications for a Teacher Apprentice for Correctional Education Facilities, located at South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit. The Teacher Apprentice for Correctional Education Facilities shall be directly responsible to the facility Principal or his/her designee for supervision and evaluation.

Fundamental Duties/Essential Functions
- Assists the instructor in implementing classroom procedures: Including preparing material, progress monitoring, grading, and monitoring students.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and physical intervention, in accordance with safe crisis management competencies when necessary.
- Support in maintaining discipline and managing classroom routines and procedures.
- Communicate and work cooperatively with co-workers and students to meet student needs.
- Prepare lessons, units and projects to complete clear learning objectives and monitor student completion.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students.
- Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and career paths.
- Create, assign and grade various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays and projects.
- Work with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and stay updated with current educational practices.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and other staff members.
- Provide feedback to the other teachers on student progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance recording, record-keeping, progress monitoring, and organizing student files.
- Order educational supplies and materials for the Corrections program.
- Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.

Qualification Standards
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have completed at least 60 college credit hours.
- Experience working with children.
- Desire to continue career in the area of education.
- Experience with Corrections Education preferred.
