Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optical Technician / Optician to join our dynamic optical team! In this vital role, you will assist in providing exceptional eye care services by supporting our Optometrist with patient pre-testing, optical and contact lens fittings and dispensing, sales, and laboratory procedures. Your expertise will help ensure accurate measurements, proper eyewear fitting, and efficient management of patient records. Main Responsibilities
- Assist Optometrist during eye examinations by preparing patients and equipment.
- Conduct preliminary tests such as measuring vital signs, assessing visual acuity, and collecting medical history using medical terminology
- Take precise measurements for eyewear prescriptions, including pupillary distance and frame fitting/adjustments
- Operate laboratory equipment to create or adjust lenses, ensuring accuracy through laboratory experience and aseptic technique
- Manage patient records accurately within our electronic medical record (EMR) systems, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support retail sales by educating patients on lens options, frames, and optical accessories while providing excellent customer service
- Maintain a clean and organized environment, adhering to safety standards for infection control and sterilization procedures
Experience
- Prior experience working in optometric clinics or optical retail environments
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical coding practices
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Crystal or other healthcare software platforms
- Laboratory experience with lens fabrication or adjustments highly desirable
- An eye for style, fashion, and eyewear designs and trends
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Experience working with pediatric and senior care populations is a plus
- Strong sales skills combined with retail math proficiency to support product recommendations and transactions
