ANIMAL CARE ASSOCIATE SUPERVISOR
POSITION INFORMATION

Classification: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Shelter Health
POSITION SUMMARY
The Animal Care Associate Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily Animal Care operations, supervising and developing staff, maintaining animal care standards, and ensuring compliance with HSSM policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES
- Supervise, coach, and support Animal Care staff and assigned volunteers.
- Ensure staff understand and consistently perform their responsibilities.
- Provide feedback, address performance concerns, and communicate staffing needs to the Director of Shelter Health.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and employee development.
- Ensure staff are trained on animal care, intake, surrender, PetPoint, safety, and HSSM procedures.
- Assist with developing and updating training protocols and department procedures.
- Oversee daily Animal Care operations and ensure appropriate standards of care are consistently maintained.
- Ensure animals receive appropriate food, water, cleaning, exercise, enrichment, and medical care as directed.
- Monitor animal health and behavior concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Ensure accurate intake, surrender, Animal Control, and animal care records.
- Assist with adoption evaluations, behavioral concerns, and euthanasia decisions.
- Ensure euthanasia is performed only by appropriately trained and certified personnel.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of animal care and medical supplies.
- Identify facility, equipment, staffing, or operational concerns and communicate them to the Director of Shelter Health.
- Learns how to work Pet Resources desk including lost and found, owner surrenders, and the pet food pantry.
- Ensure quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff.
- Promote communication and cooperation between Animal Care and other HSSM departments.
- Work collaboratively with Foster Care and other program managers.
- Represent HSSM professionally and support the organization's mission.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
- Follow and enforce HSSM policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee, customer, and animal-related matters.
- Be flexible and available to meet operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Shelter Health.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior supervisory, leadership, or animal welfare experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties associated with shelter operations.
- Ability to work in an environment with noise, cleaning agents, zoonotic disease, and animals of varying health and temperament.
