Job Title: Plate Roll Operator
Position Summary Plate Roll Operator is responsible for operating plate rolling equipment to form steel plates into cylinders and other specified shapes according to job specifications. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The Roll Operator works closely with production and quality personnel to ensure all rolled materials meet dimensional and structural requirements essential to the steel manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
· Read and interpret job paperwork, roll letters, and measure specifications to verify plate dimensions, bevel details, and material identification in accordance with production requirements.
· Measure, sweep, and prepare plates for rolling operations to ensure accuracy and readiness.
· Operate overhead cranes safely to load, position, and handle plates, including large-diameter (“big ID”) cylinders.
· Perform tack welding using flux-core techniques and fit up cans prior to tacking to maintain precision and alignment.
· Grind bevels prior to rolling, ensuring all stamps and markings align correctly with job documentation.
· Inspect finished cylinders by checking OD straps, tagging completed parts, and recording correct dimensions for quality control.
· Clean, inspect, and maintain rolling equipment, reporting or addressing any maintenance issues such as leaks or mechanical irregularities.
· Use precision measuring tools, including a standard tape measure, to verify part dimensions and ensure production accuracy.
· Uphold all safety, quality, and production standards as defined by company procedures and industry requirements.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals and overall operational efficiency.
