Position Description

SUMMARY: Transports students to and from assigned locations; controls passenger behavior and maintains safe operation
of the assigned bus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
2. Operate and maintain vehicle in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the Fayette County School
System’s Transportation Handbook
3. Successfully complete all school bus driver training programs required by the department
4. Drive routes as assigned and drive additional routes as required
5. Observe department procedures in the event of an accident
6. Inspect vehicle both pre and post trips
7. Follow proper safety procedures for passenger loading and unloading
8. Remain abreast of emergency evacuation procedures and conduct emergency evacuation drills
9. Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness and neatness of the bus
10. Observe all service and fueling schedules as established by the department
11. Ensure that students demonstrate appropriate behavior while embarking, riding and disembarking the school bus
12. Work with supervisor to maintain accurate and current route directions for retention on the bus and in the
Transportation Department office
13. Attend all required meetings, conferences and professional learning sessions
14. Promote positive public relations
15. Communicate and work effectively with students, parents and school system personnel
16. Perform other duties as assigned and allowable by intended program
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold CDL License with P&S endorsements, training is provided
Minimum of five years of driving experience
Excellent communication skills, written and oral
Ability to work in an environment with unexpected changes and frequent distractions
Ability to make professional decisions
