Job Summary
The Engine Crew Boss - Type 6 plays a vital leadership role in wildfire suppression and emergency response operations. This position involves overseeing a specialized firefighting crew responsible for rapid deployment, fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response, and environmental protection efforts. As a key team leader, you will coordinate crew activities, ensure safety protocols are followed, and operate essential firefighting equipment. Duties
- Lead and supervise a Type 6 engine crew during wildfire suppression, hazardous materials incidents, and emergency responses.
- Operate fire apparatus and specialized firefighting equipment safely and efficiently to contain fires and manage hazardous materials.
- Coordinate crew activities in accordance with incident command protocols, ensuring effective communication and safety compliance.
- Conduct fire suppression operations including fire line construction, backburning, and mop-up activities.
- Participate in emergency response calls such as medical emergencies, confined space rescues, aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF), and forest fire management.
- Implement HAZMAT protocols for hazardous materials incidents, ensuring environmental protection and personnel safety.
- Maintain all firefighting gear, personal protective equipment (PPE), and mechanical tools in optimal condition for rapid deployment.
- Support training initiatives to enhance crew skills in first aid, CPR, basic life support, respiratory protection, NFPA standards compliance, and incident command procedures.
Skills
- Proven experience with EMT responsibilities including first aid, CPR, vital signs assessment, and emergency medicine procedures.
- Strong knowledge of HAZMAT protocols and hazardous materials incident response techniques.
- Skilled in operating firefighting specialized equipment such as pumps, hoses, chainsaws, and other heavy machinery used in fire suppression.
- Ability to perform fire safety assessments and implement environmental protection measures during wildfire events.
- Experience with fire apparatus operation and commercial driving requirements for emergency vehicles.
- Familiarity with confined space rescue operations and the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in emergency response calls involving medical emergencies or hazardous situations.
- Mechanical knowledge for maintaining firefighting tools and equipment; capable of heavy lifting when necessary.
- Strong understanding of NFPA standards related to firefighting safety and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with incident command teams and team members under high-pressure conditions.
