Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner — Orthopaedic Surgery
Location: Arcis Healthcare, Lowcountry Orthopaedics (all locations), Surgery Center and local hospitals
About the Opportunity
We're looking for a highly motivated PA or NP to join a busy, growing orthopaedic surgery practice focused on hip and knee joint replacement. This is not a plug-and-play staffing position — it's a chance to build a career alongside a surgeon who wants a true clinical partner. You'll work directly with the attending as a team in the clinic, the hospital, and the OR, with increasing autonomy and responsibility as you grow with the practice.
Orthopaedic experience is strongly preferred, but we will consider a new graduate with the right personality: someone driven, coachable, personable with patients, and eager to earn a bigger role. Attitude and work ethic matter as much as your CV.
Performance-based bonuses are available for candidates who can keep pace with our OR volume — the busier we get, the more you earn.
What You'll Do
In the clinic:
- See new, established, and postoperative patients; record histories, formulate care plans, and provide diagnosis and treatment
- Evaluate and manage joint replacement conditions including hip and knee osteoarthritis, periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), periprosthetic fractures, and failed or painful arthroplasty
- Review labs, x-rays, and MRI/CT results before entering the exam room
- Confer with the attending on new patient findings, diagnosis, and treatment
- Administer therapeutic joint injections (corticosteroid, viscosupplementation) and perform minor procedures
- Review pre-operative instructions and walk surgical patients through what to expect
- Order pre-operative tests, CT scans, and MRIs
- Prescribe medications and treatments per physician protocols and scope of practice
- Develop your own practice and coordinate your scheduling template with the appropriate manager
In the hospital and OR:
- First-assist the surgeon in the operating room on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty
- Round on behalf of the supervising physician
- See hospital consultations as directed, including periprosthetic fractures and suspected PJI
- Adhere to hospital chart documentation requirements
What We're Looking For
- A team player who communicates well with the attending, staff, and patients — we run lean and everyone pulls together
- Self-starter who can follow surgery center/hospital protocols with minimal supervision and make sound independent decisions about patient care
- Stamina and reliability — long or difficult cases, irregular hours, and emergency call come with the territory
- Courteous, positive, and helpful demeanor with patients, families, staff, and physicians
- Working knowledge of managed care basics and CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Comfort with practice management and EMR software
- Neat, professional appearance; strict adherence to HIPAA and practice compliance guidelines
Qualifications
- Education: PA or NP degree required
- License: Current SC Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner licensure. Out-of-state candidates will be considered, provided they are willing to obtain SC licensure.
- Experience: Orthopaedic experience preferred — ideally in joint replacement — including diagnosis and treatment of patients and first-assisting in surgery. New graduates with the right drive and personality are encouraged to apply.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Duties are performed in the OR, clinic, and hospital settings. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids (universal precautions observed), possible exposure to germicidal agents and anesthetic gases, standing for long periods, full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to assist in transferring and positioning patients of all sizes and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Requires the physical and mental stamina for long cases and emergency call.
