Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Activities Assistant to join our team at The Alcove on the Lake - Memory Care, Lake Shore of Lake Ronkonkoma. As a key member of our memory care program, you will assist with planning and coordinating specialized programs and activities designed to support residents with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Your primary responsibility will be to provide structured, meaningful, and therapeutic activities that enhance quality of life, promote engagement, and support residents' cognitive and emotional well-being within a secure memory care environment.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Plan and implement activities appropriate for residents with dementia, including sensory stimulation, music, reminiscence, and structured small-group programming
Adapt activities to meet varying cognitive and functional levels
Provide one-on-one engagement as needed
Encourage participation using cueing and redirection
Facilitate socialization in a safe environment
Monitor behavioral changes and report concerns
Utilize dementia-appropriate interventions
Assist with activities inside and outside the unit
Maintain structured daily routines
Assist with decorating for events and holidays
Prepare supplies for activities
Working Conditions:
Coordinate with dietary for snacks/events
Assist with monthly calendars per DOH requirements
Assist with documentation of participation
Assist in serving snacks/mealtime engagement
Support and guide staff in memory care engagement

Qualifications:
Experience with dementia residents required
Memory care or assisted living experience preferred
Ability to engage cognitively impaired residents

High School diploma or equivalent

Residents come first
No working under influence
Professional appearance required
Must clock in/out properly
Must assist with coverage if needed
