Overview
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic shop assistant to join our growing team. In this entry level position, the worker will primarily handle general tasks such as organizing materials, assisting shop supervisors and project managers with assembly, and maintaining cleanliness, while also performing light welding tasks, when necessary, while learning the basics of manufacturing including how to operate machinery.
Responsibilities
- Operate shop equipment including band saws, cut-off saws, belt sanders, drill presses, and disc grinders safely and efficiently.
- Perform light welding duties, including tack welding and basic repairs on metal components, following established procedures and under supervision as needed.
- Assemble products, components, and subassemblies using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and work instructions to meet quality standards.
- Perform basic soldering of electrical or mechanical components as required, ensuring secure and reliable connections while following established procedures.
- Prepare metal surfaces for powder coating by cleaning, sanding, grinding, chipping, tumbling, and removing contaminants to ensure proper coating adhesion.
- Handle, organize, and move raw materials and finished products throughout the shop.
- Assist with packaging, labeling, and preparing completed products for shipment when needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following established housekeeping practices.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment and workstations.
- Assist shop supervisors and team members with daily production activities.
- Accurately use measuring tools such as tape measures and other basic inspection equipment.
- Inspect completed work for quality and report any defects or production concerns to the supervisor.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production operations.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Aptitude for mechanics
- Familiarity with hand tools
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 70 pounds
- Basic welding knowledge, including MIG (experience with light welding preferred).
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
