Bridge to Home operates an Interim Housing shelter program that provides temporary nightly shelter, meals, and showers for up to 69 homeless clients and up to 8 families. Resident Counselors are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the shelter, its clients, and its volunteers and report directly to the Interim Housing Supervisors.

Hours/Shift: 6am-2:30pm (Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat)
Hours/Shift: 2pm-10:30pm (Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat)
Hours/Shift: 10pm-6:30am (Wed-Sat)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report to Interim Housing Supervisor, daily.
- Monitors shelter check-ins, showers, and daily activities
- May be required organize donations, clean, and disinfect areas including showers, restrooms, and dining room.
- May be required to assist volunteers with meals and clean-up, assuring smooth meal service.
- Assure that volunteers always have a positive experience and feel appreciated.
- Maintains a professional, welcoming attitude with residents, clients, staff, volunteers, and guests.
- Conduct hourly shelter rounds to ensure safety.
- Enforces shelter rules, policies, and procedures with residents and clients.
- Report disturbances with employees, clients, and guests to the Interim Housing Supervisor and/or Interim Housing Director
- Attend monthly meetings with the shelter and organization team and attend required trainings.
- May be required to serve meals, organize donations, clean, and disinfect areas.
- Works with the team and clients through a trauma informed lens, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Will ensure that emergency procedures are followed and ensure that Incident Reports are complete within agency protocol and reported to direct supervisor.
- Complete daily log and shift change procedures are followed at the end of each shift.
- Other duties as assigned and related to the job.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent, required
Valid Driver’s License with no major driving infractions, required
Prior experience and acceptance working with people of diverse backgrounds, mental health diagnosis including substance use disorders, and criminal backgrounds, is highly desired
Prior experience working with homeless or low-income people is highly desired
Computer literacy in Outlook and Word, required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general procedures or regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to clients, supervisors, and other staff members.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to effectively present information to management and other resident assistants
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to understand written and oral instructions and communication to make quick and reasonable decisions and conclusions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
All candidates for Bridge to Home employment, whose regular duties will require to be in close physical contact with shelter clients, must present a current (not more than 1-year-old at time of hire) certificate or medical note of a negative tuberculosis test before they are eligible for employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk, regularly. Employee must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move items of up to 15lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is outside in weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
