JB Steel Project Estimator
The ideal candidate for the Commercial Construction Estimator position should demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, advanced analytical capabilities, and strong proficiency with estimating software and tools. Extensive experience within the commercial construction sector is essential, along with expertise in interpreting architectural drawings and specifications. The candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations, and exhibit outstanding communication skills when engaging with clients, subcontractors, and team members to ensure all estimates are precise, competitive, and aligned with project objectives.
The Commercial Construction Estimator is tasked with preparing thorough and accurate cost estimates for projects in a design-build general contracting environment. Core responsibilities include analyzing project documentation and soliciting bids from subcontractors and suppliers. The estimator also participates in pre-construction meetings and site visits, tracks estimates throughout the project lifecycle, and maintains clear communication with clients and stakeholders.
An effective candidate for this role is detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative, with excellent communication abilities, substantial knowledge of structural steel and concrete, and a capacity to balance technical requirements with client expectations.
Responsibilities
· Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel and concrete scope.
· Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and compliance with project requirements.
· Collaborate with project teams to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
· Develop & maintain cost databases and historical pricing records for future reference.
· Prepare and present bid proposals, including breakdowns of labor, material, and equipment costs.
· Assist in value engineering and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining project quality and integrity.
· Participate in pre-construction meetings and site visits to assess project conditions and risks.
· Monitor and update estimates throughout the project lifecycle, providing support for change orders and budget revisions.
· Maintain clear communication with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders regarding estimate status and updates.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, or related field preferred.
· Minimum 3 years’ experience as an estimator in commercial construction, with a focus on structural steel and/or concrete.
· Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry practices for structural systems.
· Proficiency in commercial estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
· Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
· Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.

· Professional certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar.
· Experience with Sage Estimating Software.
· Experience working in a design-build format
· Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and LEED standards.
· Experience managing multiple large-scale commercial projects simultaneously.
· Spanish language proficiency or multilingual abilities.
