Job Description
Bergeron Land Development is seeking an experienced Highway Grade Checker / Roadway Laborer to support roadway and heavy civil construction projects throughout South Florida. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate grades, elevations, and slopes in accordance with project plans and specifications.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working on roadway projects and is comfortable using grade-checking tools such as laser levels, grade rods, and measuring equipment while working closely with equipment operators, foremen, and survey crews.
HOURLY RATE DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE - $19-$24 PER HOUR
Work Schedule:
- 40 to 55 hours per week
- Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- Additional overtime as needed — must be available for overtime work
A Criminal Background Search, Driver’s License Check, and Drug Screening are required before hire.
Key Responsibilities
- Check and verify grades, elevations, and slopes for roadway, drainage, and earthwork operations
- Use laser levels, grade rods, tape measures, straightedges, and other grade-checking tools
- Assist equipment operators (dozers, graders, excavators) to achieve correct grades
- Read and interpret plans, profiles, and cross-sections
- Set and maintain grade stakes and reference points as needed
- Communicate grade corrections clearly to operators and supervisors
- Perform general labor duties related to roadway construction as required
- Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all company and site safety policies
Qualifications
- Prior experience on roadway or highway construction projects required
- Experience checking grades and elevations strongly preferred
- Familiarity with laser levels, grade rods, and basic surveying tools
- Ability to read construction plans and grade stakes
- Physically capable of working outdoors in South Florida conditions
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work well with crews, operators, and supervision
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with FDOT roadway projects
- Experience working alongside survey crews or machine control systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
