JOB
The Village of Buffalo Grove is seeking two school crossing guards for this school year. This position works five days/ 15 hours a week while school is in session, which includes morning and afternoon crossing duties. A typical work schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:15 AM - 8:15 AM and 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM or 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM; however, these times may vary depending on school hours. Hired crossing guards are provided a marked polo shift, traffic safety vest, stop sign, and raincoat. Paid training is also included.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Work involves responsibility for the safe movement of school children at intersections and other crossings in the vicinity of public schools and the reporting of vehicular violations to the police department for appropriate enforcement action. Work is carried out in accordance with established procedures and instructions, but these employees are expected to be constantly alert to vehicular traffic and the activities and movement of children towards, into and across streets, with the objective of assuring the safety of children and the orderly movement of vehicles. Work is evaluated in terms of the safety of children and traffic movement, by field inspections, review of accident reports and investigation of complaints.
Duties are primarily performed in an assigned area where the crossing is exposed to varying and extreme weather conditions. When performing duties, crossing guards risk physical hazards from traffic and hostile people. Physical exertion is required to stand for extended periods of time. Physical effort is required to lift and carry weight of 10 pounds or less. Intermittently bend, squat, kneel, twist, and reach; distinguish colors.
