Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers across over-the-road (OTR) routes while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment as needed, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transport.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to meet delivery schedules while optimizing fuel consumption and route planning.
- Transport hazardous materials or dangerous goods following hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols.
- Deliver freight accurately to designated locations, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to delivery procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before hitting the road.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery records in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving with a focus on freight handling.
- Knowledge of various trailer types such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and specialized equipment for automobile transportation.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools for efficient route planning on over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Understanding of trucking safety regulations including FMCSA, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and hazard communication standards.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks confidently and perform manual handling tasks during loading/unloading processes.
- Experience with logistics cargo handling, truck loading/unloading procedures, and securing freight properly for safe transport.
- Strong driving skills with a clean driving record; experience with delivery routes that require precise timing and route management.
