Job Title: Shop Technician-Semi Trailer Mechanic

Job Summary:
Advance diagnostics and repair, welding and fabrication and perform preventative maintenance on trailers bodies, suspension, electrical and brake systems. DOT & FHWA inspections. Log parts and labor in computer systems. Mentor Junior mechanics and promote safe shop environment.

1. Advanced Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and fix complex air brake systems, ABS electronics, wiring harnesses, landing gear, and sliding tandem sub-frames.
2. Welding & Fabrication: Perform high-level MIG/TIG welding and metal work on aluminum and steel trailer bodies, roofs, rails, and floors.
3. DOT & FHWA Inspections: Conduct official Federal Highway Administration and DOT safety inspections, certifying that equipment is fully roadworthy.
4. Preventative Maintenance: Execute thorough scheduled check-ups on hubs, axles, suspensions, and tires to prevent mid-trip failures.
5. Shop Leadership: Mentor junior mechanics, maintain a safe OSHA-compliant workspace, and accurately log parts and labor into computer systems.
6. Maintain shop and equipment to promote safety.

General Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude and skills. Ability to communicate effectively, (written and verbal). Mechanically inclined with a willingness to learn. Trainable and dependable. Welding, operate forklift and knowledge of DOT regulations is a plus but will train.
Knowledge: Has knowledge of trailers and repair of components.
Experience: 3 to 5+ years of hands-on semi-trailer maintenance and heavy repair experience. Certifications A PLUS but not required ASE certifications (heavy truck/trailer), valid welding certificates, or certified FHWA inspector status. Tools: Must provide a complete personal set of standard and specialized hand/pneumatic tools with a rollaway toolbox.
Scope of Responsibility: Follows established procedures and policies, but may use some discretion in identifying, researching, and resolving problems. May prioritize tasks and time, with direction of supervisor. Errors have impact on organizations financial performance.
Internal/External Contacts: Communication is continuous and often complex, to resolve non-routine problems, provide direction, negotiate complex transactions, or convey highly specialized information.
Physical Skills: Ability to lift up to 75–80 lbs., stand or bend for long periods, and work safely in loud shop or outdoor environments.
