Job purpose
The AI & Information Technology Intern will support the Information Technology department by researching, developing, and implementing practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions that improve business operations across the organization. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience applying emerging AI technologies in a manufacturing environment while supporting digital transformation initiatives, process automation, knowledge management, and responsible AI adoption.
The intern will collaborate with departments including IT, Human Resources, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Quality to identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and enhance decision-making.
Duties and responsibilities

Research emerging AI technologies and evaluate their potential applications within the organization.

Assist in identifying business processes that can benefit from AI, automation, or machine learning tools.

Develop AI-powered solutions to improve productivity, documentation, reporting, and workflow efficiency.

Build and test AI prompts, assistants, and automations using approved enterprise AI platforms.

Assist with implementing AI tools that support document management, knowledge sharing, and employee productivity.

Help develop internal AI best practices, standards, and governance documentation.

Evaluate AI tools for security, compliance, privacy, and business value.

Analyze data and prepare reports that identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.

Support automation projects that reduce repetitive administrative tasks.

Create user documentation and training materials for AI tools and applications.

Present findings and recommendations to IT leadership and business stakeholders.

Assist with other technology initiatives and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Data Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
Strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, automation, and emerging technologies.

Familiarity with AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Claude, or similar tools.

Understanding of prompt engineering concepts and AI-assisted workflows.

Basic knowledge of Python, SQL, JavaScript, or another programming language is preferred.

Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Self-motivated with a desire to learn and explore new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to APIs, automation platforms, or low-code/no-code development.

Coursework or projects involving machine learning, data analytics, natural language processing, or generative AI.
Working conditions
Office environment within a manufacturing facility. Position may require time on the production floor, meetings with operational departments, use of standard office/computer equipment, and occasional work outside normal business hours during implementations, upgrades, or production support needs.
Physical requirements

Must be able to move, lift, transport items at minimum of 20 lbs.

Must be able to consistently operate a computer/office productivity machinery i.e., calculator, copy machine, printer for a minimum of 6 hours per day.

Must be able to remain stationary for a minimum of 2 hours per day.

Must be able to detect and correct errors on paper/screens.

Must be able to communicate and exchange information with other members of the organization verbally, nonverbally, and in writing.

Must be able to move throughout the facility and office area to access file cabinets, office equipment, plant machinery, and other office areas as needed.
