THE ROLE
Operate our CNC laser cutter across multiple pods — nest, cut, sort, hand off to brake. The first step in everything we ship. A high-leverage seat: if you keep the laser running, the whole shop moves.
ABOUT MOUNTAIN OFF-ROAD / DSM
Mountain Off-Road / DSM is a precision steel fabrication and CNC machining platform in Delta, Colorado. Our work spans:
- Architectural cladding for national transit programs
- AWS D1.1 structural steel for utility-scale infrastructure
- Stainless production cells for OEM clients
- Aftermarket consumer products
We're scaling. In the last twelve months we've signed multi-year programs with national clients, launched a dedicated stainless production cell, and stood up the first formal pod operating model in our shop's history. This isn't a maintenance shop.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Set up and run the CNC laser cutter on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless across varied gauges
- Import DXFs, nest jobs to maximize material yield, and stage cut work for downstream pods
- Manage material consumption, scrap, and remnant tracking
- First-piece inspection on cut accuracy, edge quality, and dimensional tolerance
- Coordinate with engineering on programming questions and material substitutions
- Maintain laser uptime — preventive maintenance, nozzle/lens care, gas management, slat changes
- Keep nesting work flowing — brake, weld, and assembly stations depend on you
GROWTH PATH
- First 90 days: Learn our material catalog and nesting library, run production for anchor program work.
- 6 months: Full laser autonomy. Own setup, nesting, and yield. Begin cross-training a backup operator.
- 12 months: Laser cell lead. Influence material decisions, nest libraries, and equipment upgrades.
- Beyond: Cutting/Forming Cell Lead as the platform scales.
REQUIRED
- 2+ years CNC laser operation experience (fiber or CO2)
- Comfort programming nests in software (Lantek, Radan, SigmaNEST, MaterialCAM, or comparable)
- Read shop drawings and DXF files; understand tolerance callouts
- Mechanical aptitude — troubleshoot basic laser issues at the machine
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for full shift, work safely around moving material
PREFERRED
- Fiber laser experience (Mazak, Trumpf, Bystronic, Mitsubishi, or comparable)
- Nesting optimization / yield management experience
- Brake, welding, or general fabrication cross-skills
