Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Art Teacher to inspire middle and high school students in their artistic development. This is a part-time position with a set schedule of 6 hours per week August through May. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for art education, experience and passion for visual arts, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to nurturing each student’s unique artistic voice. You will design engaging lesson plans, incorporate innovative learning technologies, and promote a positive classroom environment that encourages exploration and self-expression.
Duties
- Develop comprehensive art curricula aligned with educational standards
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in various art mediums, which could include drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art
- Assess student progress through projects, portfolios, and standardized testing, providing constructive feedback
- Manage classroom responsibilities effectively to maintain a respectful, positive environment conducive to creative exploration
- Mentor students by offering guidance on artistic techniques, portfolio development, and academic pathways in the arts
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and participate in school events such as art exhibitions and competitions
- Ensure compliance with educational regulations and safety standards related to art materials and studio practices
Skills
- Proven experience teaching art at middle or high school levels with a strong classroom management record
- Experience in various art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, and mixed media
- Ability to adapt lessons for different learning styles and developmental stages of adolescents
- Strong communication skills for effective public speaking, parent engagement, and student mentoring
- Proficiency in proofreading, copy editing, and writing skills for developing instructional materials and student feedback
- Understanding of childhood development principles applicable to working with children and teenagers
- Skills in behavior management, classroom responsibilities management, and special accommodations if needed
- Ability to incorporate creative writing techniques into visual arts instruction when appropriate
- Experience coaching or mentoring students in extracurricular activities such as sports or community arts projects is a plus
