About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on accounting generalist to manage day-to-day financials and give ownership real visibility into profitability — both company-wide and by client/job order. CPA preferred but not required if you have strong staffing or professional services accounting experience. This is a "do it yourself" role, not a role that manages a large team.
What You'll Do
- Own monthly P&L preparation and close process
- Track and report gross margin by client and job order (bill rate vs. pay rate vs. burden) — the core profitability metric in staffing
- Manage AP/AR, including client invoicing and collections oversight
- Support payroll-related accounting and workers' comp/burden rate accuracy
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and basic budgeting
- Review and provide input on client service agreements and vendor contracts from a financial risk standpoint
- Prepare reporting for ownership and support outside CPA firm with year-end tax prep and any audit requests
- Improve accounting processes/systems as the company scales
What You Bring
- 5–7 years of accounting experience; staffing, PEO, or professional services industry experience strongly preferred
- CPA or CPA-track preferred; not required
- Experience with job/project-level profitability tracking
- Working knowledge of AP/AR, payroll accounting basics, and light contract review
- Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar mid-market accounting software; Excel skills a must
- Comfortable being the sole in-house finance resource, coordinating with an outside CPA firm as needed
