As a Senior Truck Engineering & Compliance Specialist, you will provide trusted commercial vehicle engineering and regulatory guidance to NTEA member companies, industry groups, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders. About the Role
Work trucks are the backbone of our North American economy. Through our department within NTEA, we support a wide variety of commercial vehicle manufacturer and end-user member companies, as well as internal staff with information and insight on commercial work trucks. As a Senior Truck Engineering & Compliance Specialist, you will have direct contact with members, from small family businesses to global chassis OEMs, collaborate with industry groups, help develop educational resources, and participate in key industry events and functions. Our member companies appreciate and rely upon these services, especially as we assist them in navigating new and emerging technologies, such as ADAS, ADS, BEVs and other forms of propulsion.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Technical Assistance: Assist member companies with engineering issues related to vehicle manufacture and upfitting of commercial trucks and related equipment.
- Regulatory Guidance: Provide expert guidance on compliance with U.S. Federal and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and other industry regulations and standards relative to work trucks.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Keep abreast of industry regulations and assist in development of action plans and resources for member company compliance with new regulations.
- Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between members and government agencies, improving mutual understanding of industry issues, and representing the Association in relevant standards development groups.
- Industry Support: Manage and support industry groups of the Association, including meeting facilitation and technical guidance.
- Educational Resources: Develop technical publications, manuals, and other educational materials for members.
- Content Development: Create and contribute technical content for our organization’s publications and communication channels.
- Event Participation: Assist with and participate in annual organization events and other industry shows.
Required Skills:
- Technical skills – Drawing on individual and departmental commercial vehicle engineering experience, this role can understand and provide technical assistance to members on a variety of vehicle and regulatory subjects. This role also forecasts upcoming challenges for members on various fronts they may encounter through evolving vehicle technologies and regulatory activities.
- Communication: Interpersonal, oral, and written – The ability to understand and communicate technical subject matter is critical in working with member companies and internal staff, as well as with chassis OEMs, government agencies, and interactions with other industry organizations. Strong written communication skills are needed in responses to members and other industry partners, as well as technical content, educational resources, and other publication materials.
- Customer service – This role requires a strong desire to ensure the needs of our members are prioritized and met, as well as our internal staff customers.
- Computer skills – The organization uses Teams and Teamwork platforms for communications and project management, along with standard MS Office suite programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None (at this time)
Travel:
- Approximately four to six weeks of travel per year for organizational events, staff training, project work, division meetings, standards groups, and industry conferences.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for long periods and operate a computer.
- Must be able to communicate effectively via telephone/web meetings, including from home in a hybrid work area.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Engineering degree and 10 years or more of automotive/truck experience preferred.
- Vocational work truck equipment industry experience is a plus.
