Aaron's Estate Sales is a family-owned Michigan company. We run estate sales, host specialty auctions, and list houses. Most of the time, families call us after a parent dies, when someone moves into senior care, or when it's just time to clear out a house full of decades of memories. We help them figure out what to do with the stuff and the house, and we try to do it with some dignity for everyone involved.
We're hiring a Sales Department Manager to build the team that meets these families and signs them on with AES. Right now that work is spread across the owner, the COO, and a small group of people. It works, but it doesn't scale, and we have more business coming in than we can sign. Your job is to recruit, train, and lead a growing sales team. Start with Sales Representatives focused on signing contracts, and grow it over time into listing agents and buyer's agents as we build out the real estate side.
This is not a desk job. You'll be in client homes, on the phone with referral partners, and at actual estate sales on weekends during peak season. The right person is good at sales (because you'll be teaching others how to do it) and good with people in tough emotional situations. You're patient. You hold standards without being a jerk about it. You've done in-home sales before, so you know what that work actually looks like.
What You'll Be Doing
- Your first few weeks: working actual estate sales with our production team so you've lived the customer experience before you start coaching others on it
- Recruit your team — Sales Reps to start, then listing agents and buyer's agents as we grow
- Train new hires, run weekly 1-on-1s, set individual quotas, and hold the team to them
- Coach in real time when somebody's working a difficult contract or a family situation that's complicated
- Keep the pipeline visible: who's working what, where things stand, what's at risk
- Step in personally on complex or high-value contracts when your team needs help closing
- Build relationships with people who refer business to us: probate attorneys, estate planners, financial advisors, senior services folks
- Stay tight with the operations team so signed deals get a clean handoff and don't fall apart
- Report to the COO with weekly numbers and quarterly results. You'll have a seat at strategic conversations
What We're Looking For
- Active Michigan real estate license (agent or broker, either works)
- A few years of real estate sales experience plus some leadership or coaching under your belt
- You've helped someone else improve their numbers, not just hit your own
- You've done in-home sales before. You know what it's like to sit at a kitchen table with a family in crisis and still get the job done
- Willing to actually work in the field. This isn't a job where you delegate everything from a desk
- Honest, direct, patient. You can hold people accountable without making it personal
- Comfortable with a fast pace and a playbook that's still being written
- Good with grief. We're often the first call families make in a hard week, and our team has to handle that with care
- Some real estate hustle. You don't wait for things to come to you
Why This Role Stands Out
- You're building this function from scratch. Not maintaining it. Your call on who to hire, how to train, what "great" looks like
- Direct line to the COO and ownership. Your voice matters in strategy conversations
- Small enough that you can see your impact. Big enough that there's real room to grow
How We Work at AES
- Everyone — owner included — works estate sales in our busy season (March–October), Saturdays included
- Your onboarding starts in the field. A few weeks working real sales with the production team before you lead anyone
Compensation & Benefits
- $52,000 to $100,000+ per year depending on what you and the team produce
- Hourly base year-round, plus quarterly bonuses when your team hits quota, plus monthly bonuses tied to real estate deal volume
- Health insurance — we cover 50% of your premium
- Dental and vision available, employee-paid
- PTO and sick leave
- Mileage reimbursement when you're driving to client meetings
- Direct mentorship from the COO during our growth phase
Schedule & Location
- In our Michigan office. Not remote
- Monday through Friday core hours, with occasional evenings or weekends depending on what's happening
- Regular local field travel to client homes. You need a reliable car (we cover the miles)
How to Apply
Send your resume and a short note (a few paragraphs) covering:
- Your real estate background and any leadership or coaching experience
- How you'd approach building a sales team from scratch
- Why this role interests you specifically
- Your Michigan real estate license number
