Hammond Law Firm is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated Pre-Litigation Legal Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, organizing complex information, and helping clients resolve disputes before litigation becomes necessary.
The primary responsibility of this role is preparing high-quality demand letters and managing the administrative process that supports pre-litigation matters. While the position may occasionally assist with litigation matters, the majority of the work focuses on moving cases toward resolution before suit is filed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Draft and prepare attorney demand letters using case facts, supporting documents, and attorney direction.
- Review client files to identify missing information and ensure demand packages are complete.
- Organize exhibits, contracts, correspondence, invoices, photographs, and other supporting documentation.
- Request, track, and follow up on records and documents needed to complete demand packages.
- Maintain organized electronic case files and update case management software.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding case status and document requests.
- Coordinate with attorneys to revise and finalize demand letters.
- Calendar deadlines and maintain task lists to keep matters progressing efficiently.
- Prepare correspondence and other pre-litigation documents as needed.
- Assist with occasional litigation support, including drafting basic pleadings, discovery responses, and file organization when needed.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal preferred.
- Strong writing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines simultaneously.
- Comfortable learning legal concepts and following established workflows.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and case management software.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients and attorneys.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience drafting demand letters or legal correspondence.
- Experience in civil litigation, real estate, business, estate planning, or general civil practice.
- Experience using Clio Manage or similar legal practice management software.
