Manion's Wholesale Building Supplies and Manion Lumber & Truss are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and people-focused HR Generalist/Payroll Coordinator to join our team. This position plays a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the full employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to benefits administration, leave management, compliance, and employee relations.

Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate wages, overtime, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefit withholdings.
- Maintain employee personnel files, payroll records, and HRIS data in compliance with federal, state, and company requirements.
- Coordinate employee onboarding, status changes, leaves of absence, and terminations.
- Administer leave programs, including FMLA, Non-FMLA, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Minnesota Paid Family & Medical Leave (MN PFML).
- Serve as a resource for employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, HR policies, and leave programs.
- Administer employee benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, and annual open enrollment.
- Assist with recruiting activities, new hire orientation, and maintaining job descriptions.
- Support employee relations by assisting managers and employees with workplace concerns while promoting company policies.
- Prepare required federal and state compliance reports, including OSHA, EEO, Workers' Compensation, NDT, SOII, OEWS, and other reporting requirements.
- Participate on the Safety Committee and coordinate workers' compensation claims with employees and insurance carriers.
- Reconcile payroll and benefit accounts while maintaining accurate financial records.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and assist with HR initiatives and special projects.
- Support both Manion's Wholesale and Manion Lumber & Truss operations as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, payroll taxes, internal controls, and compliance.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and employee benefit regulations.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent verbal, written, and mathematical skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using payroll, HRIS, and benefits administration systems.
Education & Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience in Human Resources or Accounting.
- Two or more years of payroll processing experience preferred.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based with regular interaction with employees, managers, vendors, and benefit providers. Occasional visits to warehouse, lumber yard, manufacturing, and delivery operations are required, where appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be followed. The role requires managing multiple priorities, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines, and traveling to company locations quarterly.
