General Summary of Position
Functions as a clinician and educator in the department's clinical educational and research programs. Serves as a role model for residents and medical students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

Administers medications parenteral fluids blood and nutritional treatment according to established policies.

Assesses and manages minor physical and psychological problems.

Conducts clinics for continuity of care of selected patients.

Coordinates community and hospital services determines appropriate community referrals and assists in making referrals as needed by patients and families.

Directs and assists staff in the implementation of existing policies and procedures protocols and standards.

Establishes medical diagnosis and prescribes drugs for common short-term or chronic stable health problems.

Functions as a mentor for less experienced staff. Functions as a resource to staff in evaluating the effectiveness of care and improving documentation skills.

Identifies potential patient problems based on knowledgeable interpretation of data (i.e. lab/diagnostic studies physical exam family interactions etc.).

Orders performs and interprets laboratory tests when indicated by diagnosis.

Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.

Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs teaching of specialty skills and testing/validating staff competencies.

Plans and implements appropriate education for patients and families.

Provides guidance and instruction in health maintenance and disease prevention.

Reviews medical records to insure that health maintenance records are completed for each visit. Consistently documents all patient interventions and follow-up care provided to patients. Completes billing forms for services provided.

Writes prescriptions orders and plans of therapy according to established protocols.
Minimal Qualifications
Education-
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine required
Experience-
1-2 years Practice experience required
Licenses and Certifications-
MD - Physician - State Licensure License to practice medicine in the State of Maryland required
- Board certification in primary care specialty preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities-
Verbal and written communication skills.
