About the Role:
Select Steel Fabricators Inc is looking for a skilled Fitter to join our team in Southfield, MI! This is a hands-on opportunity to work with a dedicated fabrication crew, bringing precision and craftsmanship to every project. Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to plan fitting operations
- Align, fit, and assemble structural steel components according to specifications
- Use hand tools, clamps, squares, and measuring instruments to ensure precise fit-up
- Tack weld components in preparation for final welding
- Inspect fitted assemblies for dimensional accuracy and quality compliance
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and shop supervisors to meet production schedules
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with shop safety standards
Requirements:
- Prior experience as a Fitter or Structural Steel Fabricator in a shop environment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with layout tools, measuring instruments, and hand tools
- Basic tack welding skills; MIG or stick welding experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods in a shop setting
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
