Ellis Works is a design-driven manufacturing company of premium cabinet and door hardware, based in Brooklyn, NY. We produce small-batch, artisanal hardware for the architecture and interior design community. Based out of a historic loft space in Industry City, you’d be joining a creative, design-focused work environment with an opportunity to work with a new and ambitious team.
We are looking for a Metal Finisher to join our team to specifically work in our surface prep department on sandblasting and hand burnishing brass.
- Surface Preparation (Sandblasting): Load parts into blast cabinet, using handheld nozzle to direct abrasive media onto brass parts for surface preparation prior to finishing.
- Mechanical Finishing (Hand Burnishing): Using abrasive pads and wheels, hand burnish brass hardware for finishing.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean blasting nozzles, replace worn O-rings, and check the media hopper and ventilation seals to keep the machines operating safely and efficiently.
Typical Requirements
- Physical Stamina: The role involves standing for long periods, handling heavy or awkward castings, and working in noisy, industrial environments.
- Safety Adherence: Strict use of PPE, including blast helmets or respirators, protective gloves, and safety glasses, is mandatory.
- Experience: While no prior experience is required, just a willingness to undergo on-the-job training and learn machinery and processes; experience in hand finishing, polishing, or fabrication within the plumbing, lighting, furniture, or architectural hardware industries is preferred.
Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
