Math & Abacus Tutor – ALOHA Mind Math
ALOHA Mind Math is looking for a Math & Abacus Instructor to join our after-school enrichment program for students ages 3–14. We specialize in abacus-based mental math, arithmetic, and STEM enrichment, helping students build strong foundational math skills and confidence.
We are open weekday evenings and weekends. Instructors should have a strong foundation in math and be comfortable learning and teaching the ALOHA abacus method (full training provided — no prior abacus experience required, though a background in abacus, Kumon, or similar math programs is a plus).
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with young children, is energetic, patient, and committed to helping students grow their math skills over the long term.
Location: Irvine, CA or Online
Compensation: $18–$25/hour, based on experience
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized instruction in abacus-based mental math and arithmetic
- Teach and reinforce ALOHA's structured math curriculum using abacus tools and visualization techniques
- Develop and adapt lesson plans to fit each student's math level and pace
- Use learning technology and manipulatives to enhance the tutoring experience
- Manage classroom dynamics to keep a focused, positive learning environment
- Track student progress and communicate with parents on growth in math skills
- Collaborate with other instructors to support students with diverse learning needs
- Stay current on best practices in math education and abacus instruction
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
- Strong math skills and ability to explain concepts clearly to young learners
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom (in-person or online)
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred
- Background in abacus, mental math programs, or STEM instruction is a plus
- Associate degree required
