Gene Slay's Girls & Boys Club is seeking a Youth Transport Driver to join our dynamic team and play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of members during our upcoming Afterschool program!

Organization Description:Since 2018, GSGBC has embraced trauma-informed care in its operations and service delivery to members and their families. Drawing from models like the Sanctuary Model, Missouri Model, and Conscious Discipline, the organization integrates trauma-informed principles into its culture and practices. Staff receive training to understand the impacts of trauma and effectively address related behaviors. The Conscious Discipline Model emphasizes safety, connection, and problem-solving, enhancing support for children’s emotional and behavioral needs. GSGBC is committed to fostering a supportive, empowering environment where members and families can thrive.
GSGBC offers afterschool and summer programming for youth ages 5-16, serving more than 700 youth annually. GSGBC supports youth development and holistic health with programs that include: Academics, Athletics, Character Building, Healthy Living, College & Career Readiness and The Arts. The Afterschool Program runs August through May, 2:30pm-7:30pm, a Summer Camp is offered June through July, 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
SCHEDULE, LOCATION:
During Afterschool (August – May), driver will typically work between the hours of 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. During Summer Camp (June – July), Drivers typically work 8:30 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Thursday. This position is located at our Soulard Campus (2524 S. 11th St., 63104).
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
· Transport children to and from school, field trips and other destinations
· Ensure the safety of all students and any other passengers on the van
· Observe and obey all relevant traffic and safety laws
· Arrive at collection points prior to departure times
· Confirm that all passengers are present, and record any no-shows
· Ensure adherence to passenger limits
· Avoid high-traffic and accident-prone routes, where possible
· Separate physical fights and calm verbal altercations, as needed
· Submit incident report of any incidents to your supervisor upon completion of route
· Check that passengers disembark at the correct destinations, and in a timely manner
· Assist students with getting on and off the van as needed
· Maintain a clean and mechanically sound van at all times
· Perform inspections of the van before and after each route
· Ensure the van is fueled at the end of the day
· Report any accidents, mechanical or other issues with the van to your supervisor immediately
· Transport supplies or equipment to and from sites as needed
· Pick-up supplies from vendors as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or certificate of high school completion, required
- Valid driver’s license, required
- Clean driving record, required
- Outstanding knowledge of applicable transport and safety codes
- Previous experience driving groups of people, required
- Previous experience working with kids, preferred
- Working knowledge of pertinent car maintenance and restoration techniques
- Ability to work flexible hours
- The ability to problem-solve and process through critical thinking
- Must pass the health and employment requirements set by Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as a condition of employment

· Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25–50 lbs when transporting supplies, equipment, or assisting students.
· Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when assisting students on and off the van and during vehicle inspections.
· Ability to walk around the vehicle to conduct pre‑ and post‑trip safety inspections.
· Adequate vision and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) to safely operate a motor vehicle, monitor student behavior, and observe road conditions.
· Ability to respond quickly and safely to student behavioral incidents, including separating physical altercations if needed.
· Manual dexterity to operate vehicle controls and complete required documentation.
· Ability to work in varying weather conditions during loading/unloading, fueling, and inspections.
· Must meet all health and employment requirements established by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
