Job Description:
Are you obsessed with turning blank pages into something meaningful, beautiful, and inspiring?
At The Clay Hole—Utah’s largest, most inclusive community art studio—we’re crafting a new wave of premium non-pottery workshops. Creative journaling is one of our most requested topics, and we’re looking for an instructor to design and lead a heartfelt, hands-on journaling workshop between Labor Day and Christmas.
This is a powerful opportunity to help people reconnect with themselves through guided art and writing—and to be paid well doing it.
How This Works (Revenue & Responsibilities):
- You’ll team up with Dan Pearce (artist, writer, and founder with nearly 3M followers) to shape the ultimate journaling experience
- Dan’s crew manages all marketing, registration, venue setup, emails, and admin
- You provide the journals, pens, ephemera, collage supplies, prompts, and cleanup
- We split the total workshop revenue 50/50
- Workshops seat 28–48 participants, and multi-day formats lead to more revenue and deeper transformation
The Ideal Instructor:
You blend words and visuals into something magic. Ideally, you:
- Have taught journaling, mixed media writing, or creative self-expression workshops before—or have participated in many
- Are fluent in:
- Visual journaling and layout design
- Written prompts that evoke emotion, healing, and play
- Collage techniques, layering, and using found materials
- Helping others overcome perfectionism and embrace expressive mess
- Are encouraging, introspective, and phenomenal with a variety of learning styles
- Can bring several completed journals to inspire what students will make
- Have a portfolio of your journal pages (photos, scans, or videos) and any references from past teaching experiences
Additional Expectations:
- Everything must happen on tabletop workspaces—no wall mounting or fixed equipment
- You’ll arrive early and stay late for setup and cleanup
- You must come to The Clay Hole beforehand to film a promotional video with Dan for cross-promotion
- If you have any social reach, we expect you to share the event with your followers
- Canceling after registration opens (except in a true emergency) incurs a 50% loss of total registration revenue
You Should Also Be:
- Strategic about pricing and add-ons—should we sell deluxe journaling kits? Bonus follow-up Zooms?
- Flexible with timing—we’re coordinating many premium workshops
- Passionate about creating a soulful, memorable, and beautifully creative experience for every attendee
Ready to Guide a Workshop That Heals and Inspires?
Apply now and include:
- A photo portfolio or video of your creative journals
- Any references or history of teaching or facilitating groups
- A short description of your ideal workshop: one-day vs. two-day, visual vs. written balance, beginner-friendly vs. deep-dive, etc.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $1,800.00 - $5,600.00 per day
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
