Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/MLS) – Travel

Possible Shift Options:
- Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM or 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM or 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Schedule may consist of:
- Two 12-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift (32 hours), or
- Four 8-hour shifts
Job Summary
Facility is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/MLS) for a 13-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will independently perform, analyze, interpret, and correlate clinical laboratory testing to support accurate physician diagnosis and patient treatment. This role requires expertise in high- and moderate-complexity testing, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and effective communication of critical laboratory results in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high- and moderate-complexity clinical laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Evaluate and verify specimen integrity to ensure compliance with pre-analytical requirements.
- Accurately analyze, interpret, and report laboratory test results within established turnaround times.
- Immediately communicate critical laboratory values and significant findings to physicians and clinical staff.
- Perform routine quality control procedures to ensure testing accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain laboratory reagent inventory, supplies, and equipment to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Document quality control activities, maintenance records, and corrective actions accurately.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and hospital quality and safety standards.
- Train and mentor new laboratory employees and students as assigned.
- Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support quality patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, or another Laboratory Science field.
- Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Medical Technologist (MT) certification.
- Minimum 2 years of recent hospital-based laboratory experience.
- Experience performing high- and moderate-complexity testing in an acute care hospital laboratory.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and specimen processing.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel laboratory experience.
- Experience working in a high-volume acute care hospital laboratory.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic documentation.
