Position Overview
Reyes Group Ltd. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Contracting Estimator to lead estimating efforts for large-scale civil and self-perform construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area. This leadership role plays a critical part in the successful planning, budgeting, and execution of complex construction projects from preconstruction through project buyout.
The Senior Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project documents, developing detailed cost estimates, identifying project risks and opportunities, and collaborating closely with operations, project management, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of construction estimating, strong analytical abilities, and proven experience managing multiple bids across public and private sector projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage estimating efforts for hard-bid, negotiated, and design-build projects.
- Review and analyze plans, specifications, proposals, contracts, and related project documents.
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and self-performed work.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for structural concrete, excavation, support of excavation, utilities, site development, and related civil construction activities.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications for management review.
- Coordinate with operations teams, project managers, and field personnel to develop accurate work plans and pricing strategies.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
- Prepare and manage bid packages, subcontractor solicitations, and proposal submissions.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure scope compliance and project competitiveness.
- Assist with project budgeting, value engineering, scheduling considerations, and procurement planning.
- Support project teams during handoff, buyout, change order reviews, and project closeout activities.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Ensure all estimates incorporate company safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Mentor, train, and support junior estimators and estimating staff.
- Assist in recruiting, developing, and retaining estimating talent within the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of construction estimating experience on large civil, infrastructure, or self-perform construction projects.
- Proven experience estimating structural concrete, excavation, support of excavation, and utility projects (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, means, sequencing, and cost controls.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
- Strong knowledge of public and private sector bidding processes.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to define scope, identify gaps, and develop comprehensive estimate assumptions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in HCSS Estimating Software
- Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam Revu
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
- Experience with construction management and project tracking software is preferred
- Familiarity with civil construction estimating databases and cost benchmarking tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Professional industry certifications or equivalent construction experience.
- Experience estimating projects in the Chicagoland market.
- Design-build and negotiated project experience.
- Field construction experience in civil or concrete operations.
- Experience managing and mentoring estimating teams.
Compensation
Starting Salary: $75,000+, Competitive compensation package offered based on relevant experience and qualifications.

Requirements
- Valid Driver's License (Required)
- Ability to travel between project sites and office locations as needed
