The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. The AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.
The Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Catering Student Supervisor. This is a part-time, non-benefitted student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $17.76 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico with at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student).

This position requires one complete semester as a Dining Student Assistant in AS Catering.
The Student Supervisor is responsible for the training and supervision of student assistants. This is a leadership position with unit level responsibility during a shift for food production, quality control, student training and customer satisfaction. Must demonstrate leadership, take initiative, have good communication skills, and knowledge of all Dining Services positions within assigned unit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Leads by example, trains, coordinates, and supervises Lead Students and Student Assistants. May provide input to student employee performance evaluation.
- Ensures that excellent customer service is executed by Lead Students and Student Assistants.
- Trains new employees and the completion of job training checklists
- Monitors and manages staffing levels and assignments based on customer volume.
- Assists Career Staff in identifying and assigning Lead Students and Student Assistants where they would be the most effective in providing excellent service.
- Assists supervisors in filling vacant student employee shifts.
- Assist supervisor in interviewing and selection for student assistant positions.
- Keeps student employees on task at the appropriate work stations.
- Maintains high service level and command of floor or work area when Supervisor is not present.
- Ensures AS Dining Services food and work safety standards and operating procedures and AS Dining Services Policy are followed at all times. Notifies supervisors in the event of a violation.
- Other duties may be assigned.
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED:
Dining Services Lead Students and Student Assistant
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of food service production in a volume environment including sanitation and safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of proper operation, maintenance, and use of food service equipment.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision at a fast pace.
- Ability to set up, maintain, and breakdown assigned work area.
- Ability to prepare and present food as directed.
- Lead a crew of service employees.
- Ability to follow and enforce AS Dining and food safety policies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- One complete semester as a Dining Student Assistant in the same dining department as this position.
- No disciplinary action in the above referenced semester.
- Currently enrolled in 6 units for undergraduate or 4 units as a graduate at California State University, Chico
- A valid California Food Handlers Card within the first 30 days of hire.
