Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Utility Technician II (Pipelayer) to join our underground utilities team. This position is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground piping systems for water, sewer, and storm drain projects while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Job Responsibilities
- Install underground piping systems including water, sewer, and storm drain
- Lay pipe, set grade, align pipe, and ensure proper slope and elevation
- Assist with pipe connections for small diameter utilities, including megalugs, bolts and gaskets, glued pipe, and related fittings
- Read and understand grade stakes and construction plans
- Set up and operate laser levels and/or conventional levels
- Assist with trench box setup, placement, and removal
- Operate walk-behind rollers and assist with water trucks for compaction and dust control
- Work safely in and around trenches, shoring systems, and excavation equipment
- Assist with trench excavation, backfill, and compaction
- Coordinate with equipment operators, foremen, and crew members
- Perform daily inspections of tools and equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in underground utilities or pipelaying
- Experience with small diameter utility connections and fittings
- Strong understanding of pipe materials (PVC, ductile iron, concrete, HDPE, etc.)
- Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment
- Ability to read and understand grade stakes, plans, and elevations
