Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania is the local affiliate of the country’s leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider. We operate 10 health centers throughout Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Nationwide, Planned Parenthood affiliates operate more than 600 health centers, providing medical services and sexuality education for millions of individuals (adults and teens) each year. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide nursing care to adult and minor patients during the procedure and in the recovery area. Assist in the day-to-day operation of surgical services. Assist center manager in the development of medical protocols. Assist in follow-up care of problem patients. It has been determined that the position of Registered Nurse requires the performance of certain duties that place the employee at risk of occupational exposure. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitors patients, including vital signs, while in the Recovery Room.
- Provides birth control information and post abortion instructions.
- Prepares and gives injections and dispenses medications.
- Maintains accurate records of drugs administered and dispensed. Monitors and rotates stock, and orders as needed.
- Provides oversight of in-house laboratory activities, including, but not limited to: monitoring lab controls, proficiency testing events, and laboratory competency evaluations.
- Assists in setting up procedure rooms and dispensing medications.
- Assists physician in Procedure Room during surgery and/or in an emergency situation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (continued):
- Assists with follow-up care of patients with abnormal test results and/or post-abortion problems. Supports Centralized Follow-Up team with tracking and monitoring the follow up of serum beta HCGs, emergency calls, abnormal findings, and STI lab results. Keeps Center Manager information regarding follow-up care.
- Receives after-hours medical emergency calls. Maintains accurate documentation system for after-hours calls.
- Assists the Center Manager in maintaining supplies and equipment for all medical services.
- Performs ultrasounds, if/as required by center staffing and operations.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
RN Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience with minors required. BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certifications required within 90 days of hire date. OB/GYN or emergency room experience preferred. Working knowledge of contraceptive technology required. Demonstrated ability to relate to persons of diverse background and ability to communicate effectively with patients. Previous experience interviewing and educating patients. Ability to intervene in crisis situations. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a medical emergency. Must be willing to work Saturdays and be on the rotation schedule for the after-hours medical call system. Must have an understanding of OSHA regulations.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer or desk.
