Duties
- Assist patients in choosing eyewear that fits their prescription, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences, leveraging retail sales techniques.
- Conduct preliminary eye assessments including vital signs, visual acuity tests, and basic physiology evaluations to support ophthalmology diagnoses.
- Measure and fit corrective lenses accurately using optical equipment and POS (Point of Sale) systems for seamless transactions.
- Maintain detailed medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Support laboratory processes such as lens edging, frame adjustments, and quality control to ensure optimal optical performance.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens usage, and health regulation policies related to eye care practices.
- Collaborate with optometrists and healthcare providers to ensure adherence to state healthcare regulations and medical billing standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in retail optometry or optical environments with a strong understanding of optics, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with ophthalmology procedures, laboratory experience, and clinic experience preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, medical coding, medical billing, and clinical confidentiality policies essential for maintaining patient privacy.
- Ability to operate EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms efficiently; experience with POS systems is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex medical information clearly to diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care clients.
- Basic understanding of vital signs measurement and aseptic technique for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
- Retail management skills including retail math, sales techniques, and familiarity with health regulation policy knowledge are advantageous.
