Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other commercial vehicles in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and ensure timely arrivals
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper securing of cargo including hazardous materials and dangerous goods
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and vehicle inspections in accordance with regulatory standards
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify mechanical issues or safety concerns before operating the vehicle
- Load and unload cargo efficiently while adhering to safety protocols for manual handling and cargo security
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route adjustments, delivery statuses, or safety concerns
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving with various types of trailers such as refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, or dump trucks
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods
- Proficiency in using GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time navigation adjustments
- Ability to handle manual handling tasks safely and efficiently during loading/unloading processes
- Skilled in logistics cargo handling with experience operating equipment like forklifts when necessary
- Excellent driving record with experience operating tractor-trailers and other large commercial vehicles under diverse conditions
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers, clients, and safety personnel
