Job Title: IT Intern Department: Information Technology
Reports to: IT Specialist
Location: Christiansburg, Virginia (On-site)
Duration: 3 months
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The IT Intern will assist in the day-to-day management and support of the company’s IT systems, gaining exposure to hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, and cloudbased solutions. This internship is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates to develop practical skills under the mentorship of an experienced IT Specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with setup, configuration, and maintenance of workstations, laptops, and peripherals.
- Help process and resolve IT tickets, assisting users with technical issues across hardware, software, and networks.
- Help maintain antivirus and software updates on company devices.
- Assist with cloud-based services (Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, etc.) integration and management.
- Support IT documentation and record-keeping, including compliance evidence for CMMC/NIST SP 800-171
- Participate in cybersecurity awareness initiatives and training.
- Show initiative in IT projects, including network, server, and software management.
- Perform other IT tasks assigned to support department operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, a degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related field.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and basic networking concepts.
- Interest in cybersecurity and IT compliance is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, and listen. The employee occasionally is required to stand, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 40 pounds.
