Under the direct supervision of the pharmacy department director, managers, and preceptors and program instructors, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will complete the requirements of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program to become eligible to apply to the Board of Pharmacy and become a registered pharmacy technician. During this program the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will process, compound and prepare medications upon receiving medication orders from physicians or other qualified practitioners; fill and deliver drug requisitions received from patient care areas; repackage medications; conduct patient billing; restocking and ordering supplies; and assist in the delivery of medication to patient care areas. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee will not have responsibilities or access to controlled substances.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist Pharmacist in dispensing of doses following department guidelines
- Record drugs which need to be reordered
- Demonstrates accuracy in filling initial orders
- Delivers stat medication orders as needed
- Makes rounds in a timely manner
- Accurately refills automated drug distribution cabinets
- Maintains inventory in a neat and organized fashion and follows department procedures to maintain accurate counts
- Assists in putting away returned medications on a daily basis
- Packages/bar-codes medications following department guidelines
- Restock and transport code carts following department guidelines
- Perform initial sterile compounding competencies to include garbing, fingertip and media fill sampling and pass written competency
- Perform IV sterile compounding under direct supervision
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED Required
- 17 years of age by the end of the training program Required
- Meets Board of Pharmacy requirements to register as a pharmacy technician Required
