About Whatcom Intergenerational High School
Whatcom Intergenerational High School (WIHS) is a small public charter high school located in the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham, Washington. We proudly serve approximately 115 students in a relationship-centered learning environment that values respect, belonging, and community.
Our campus includes:
· Six classrooms
· Two student/staff restrooms
· A small cafeteria kitchen
· A small commons/cafeteria
· Office and shared spaces

Position Summary
WIHS is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and caring individual to fill a combined Janitor & Cafeteria Staff position. This full-time role is responsible for maintaining a clean, healthy, and organized school environment while preparing and serving breakfast and lunch to approximately 115 students each school day.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys staying active, takes pride in their work, enjoys serving others, and understands the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and professionalism.
Cafeteria Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
· Prepare, heat, and serve daily breakfast and lunch for approximately 115 students
· Set up and close down breakfast and lunch service each day
· Receive, inspect, organize, and properly put away food deliveries
· Maintain accurate food inventory and notify administration when supplies need replenishing
· Prepare field trip meals as needed
· Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, serving equipment, and kitchen tools
· Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, serving areas, and dining spaces
· Follow standardized food preparation and serving procedures
· Maintain proper food temperatures and storage practices
· Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations
· Help maintain an organized, clean, efficient, and welcoming kitchen
Janitorial Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
· Clean, disinfect, and sanitize classrooms, offices, commons areas, hallways, and shared spaces
· Clean and disinfect student and staff restrooms daily
· Sweep, vacuum, mop, and polish floors throughout the school
· Wipe and sanitize desks, tables, counters, doors, light switches, and other high-touch surfaces
· Organize shared spaces and help maintain an orderly learning environment
· Empty garbage and recycling throughout the building
· Replace liners and dispose of waste properly
· Restock paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissue, soap, and other restroom and custodial supplies
· Clean windows, glass, mirrors, and entryways
· Perform routine and seasonal deep-cleaning projects
· Monitor cleaning supply inventory and notify administration when supplies need to be ordered
· Safely use and maintain janitorial equipment and cleaning chemicals
· Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or facility issues promptly
· Help maintain a safe, clean, healthy, and welcoming environment for students, staff, families, and visitors
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
· Love working around high school students and contribute positively to our school culture
· Be patient, dependable, kind, and detail-oriented
· Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, families, staff, and visitors
· Take pride in maintaining an exceptionally clean, organized, and welcoming school
· Demonstrate excellent personal hygiene and professionalism
· Be comfortable standing and walking for most of the workday
· Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
· Work independently while also collaborating effectively with the school team
· Follow all food safety, sanitation, and janitorial safety procedures
· Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
· Be reliable, punctual, and organized
Required Qualifications
Prior to employment, candidates must provide:
· Washington State Food Worker (Food Handler) Permit
· Proof of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) skin test or chest X-ray completed within the required timeframe
· Successful completion of all required background checks
· Eligibility to work in the United States
Additional Responsibilities
As with all positions in a small school, team members may occasionally be asked to assist with other duties as assigned, provided those duties are reasonable, respectful, and aligned with the mission and daily operations of the school.
