POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Content Strategy is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping, implementing, and optimizing AAHA’s content ecosystem across digital, print, multimedia, learning, and community platforms. This position oversees AAHA’s entire content portfolio, including editorial content (Trends magazine, JAAHA), educational programs (LMS, CE products, learning deliverables), multimedia (video, podcast, digital learning assets), and the AAHA Community platform.
The Director provides strategic direction while ensuring cohesive execution across the organization. This includes managing two operational units—the Editorial Team and the Learning & Education Team—led by the Manager of Learning & Education and the Editorial Manager. The Director ensures that all content aligns with AAHA’s strategic goals, maintains high quality standards, supports member engagement, and is informed by data-driven insights.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Develop and execute a unified, digital-first content strategy.
- Establish annual and quarterly goals, KPIs, dashboards, and reporting structures.
- Align content strategy with AAHA’s mission, brand identity, and member needs.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead the Editorial Team and the Manager of Learning & Education.
- Build a high-performing culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Oversee staffing, development, and workload balancing.
Editorial Oversight (Trends, JAAHA)
- Oversee editorial operations, planning, production, and publishing.
- Approve or supervise all Trends magazine articles.
- Provide oversight for JAAHA workflows and production.
- Oversee editorial video and podcast content.
- Direct multimedia storytelling efforts.
Learning & Education Oversight
- Oversee AAHA’s learning strategy through the Manager of Learning & Education.
- Ensure creation and maintenance of CE content and LMS functionality.
- Approve learning content priorities and timelines.
AAHA Community Platform Management
- Provide strategic oversight of content and engagement on the AAHA Community.
- Ensure onboarding of all new members and sponsors.
- Oversee moderation, logistics, and platform performance reporting.
Data & Analytics Leadership
- Oversee all analytics processes for editorial, learning, and community platforms.
- Track website performance, SEO, course metrics, and community engagement.
- Translate insights into actionable strategic recommendations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Marketing, Standards, Accreditation, Learning, Meetings, Tech, and others.
- Align content initiatives with communications and membership objectives.
Budget & Resource Management
- Manage the combined Editorial, Learning, Community, and Content budgets.
- Forecast needs, track spending, and ensure cost-effective resource allocation.
- Oversee freelancer and vendor contracts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, education, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in editorial management, digital content strategy, or education content leadership.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex workflows.
- Experience with content strategy, CMS systems, learning platforms, and analytics tools.
- Veterinary industry experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge
- Editorial standards, SEO, digital publishing, and learning methodology.
- Familiarity with LMS systems, CE structures, and adult learning theory.
- Knowledge of online community platforms and engagement strategies.
Skills
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling.
- Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
- Advanced project management skills.
- Competency in analytics platforms (Google Analytics, GA4, Search Console).
- Proficiency with WordPress and digital content tools.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
