PART-TIME LITTER OFFICER (20 HOURS/WEEK)

The Nicholas County Commission is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to serve as a Part-Time Litter Officer supporting countywide litter control, illegal dumping response, and community cleanup efforts.
Position Summary
The Litter Officer will assist with identifying and addressing litter and illegal dumping sites, coordinating cleanup activities, and supporting public education and enforcement efforts related to litter control.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and document roadside litter and illegal dumping locations
- Assist with cleanup efforts using appropriate tools and safety procedures
- Deploy and monitor signage and trail cameras at problem areas
- Maintain records, photos, and reports for cleanup and enforcement activities
- Coordinate with county staff and community partners on cleanup events
- Support public outreach and education efforts on litter prevention
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of collected materials
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience in public works, environmental services, or law enforcement is preferred
Work Schedule
- Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week
- Flexible schedule; may include occasional evenings or weekends for cleanup events
