Attention All Mechanics!
The City is hiring fleet mechanics at various levels to work on repairing and maintaining
the City's fleet of automotive and heavy vehicles and equipment.
The following are general descriptions of the different
Fleet Mechanic levels within the City and County of Honolulu. Current vacancies are with the
Department of Facility Maintenance,
Automotive Equipment Service Division, the
Board of Water Supply, Water System Operations Division, and the
Honolulu Fire Department.
Fleet Mechanic I (BC-08): $5,678/month. This is an entry-level opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in the repair and maintenance of automotive and/or heavy vehicles and equipment and/or construction equipment. Therefore, persons selected for positions in this class must meet the minimum qualification requirements and be capable of successfully attaining the skills and qualifications required to satisfactorily progress to the journey level.
Fleet Mechanic II (BC-10): $6,309/month. This level independently repairs and overhauls a variety of gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel vehicles and equipment that are part of the City’s fleet that includes but are not limited to the following: light vehicles and equipment (i.e., cars, light to medium trucks, etc.), construction equipment (i.e., front end loaders, paving machines, etc.), and heavy vehicles and equipment (i.e., refuse trucks, dump trucks, etc.); and performs other related duties as required.
Fleet Mechanic III (BC-11): $6,539/month. This level independently repairs, maintains and overhauls a variety of heavy motorized vehicles and/or equipment in the City's fleet (such as refuse trucks, dump trucks, cranes, bulldozers, rollers, graders, etc.), as a substantially full-time assignment; and performs other duties as required.
Special Work Conditions: Depending on the department and position, you may be required to work on weekends and holidays and may be subject to rotating and/or night shift work.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Your application will be screened for each respective Fleet Mechanic level. If you qualify for one or more levels, your name will be eligible for consideration at the qualifying Fleet Mechanic level for the current vacancy/vacancies and future job openings. Screening will be based on the education, experience, and other job-related information provided in your application.
