Hopler, Hanna & Associates, PLLC is a growing practice headquartered in Durham, NC. The law firm assists clients with Business, Estate Planning, Probate, Guardianship, and other important legal needs. Our Firm is currently seeking an Estate Litigation Associate Attorney with 3+ years of experience to join our firm.
The practice area involves estate and trust administration actions to further the proper administration, addressing conflict between heirs or other interested parties in estate, guardianship, and trust administration, including but not limited to:
- defending against allegations of incompetency, bringing allegations of incompetency;
- addressing fiduciary concerns by defending against, or bringing allegations of, wrongdoing or breach of fiduciary duty (whether in the context of powers of attorney, guardianship, trusts, or estate administration);
- resolving conflict by formal and informal methods, and
- similar issues that may require going before a judicial body.
The ideal candidate works well in a fast-paced team-oriented environment, is empathetic, is very organized, and has a high level of attention to detail, and has at least 3 years of experience in one or more of the following fields as a practicing attorney:
- litigation,
- estate or trust administration,
- guardianships, or
- estate planning.
Additional Qualifications
- Excellent legal research, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make executive decisions.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks successfully in an autonomous fashion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google App skills
- Preferred experience in working with any practice management software (firm uses Lawcus)
Minimum Requirements
- 3 years experience as practicing attorney.
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
- The candidate must be admitted to practice in North Carolina.
Essential Functions
- Researching, reviewing, negotiating, and advising related to complex matters
- Drafting (letters/emails, pleadings, motions, memorandum, discovery generally, settlement agreements, orders, and as needed, estate planning or real estate documents)
- Appearance before courts, particularly but not limited to, the Clerk of Superior Court or a judge of Superior Court in the relevant county
- Front facing with clients, opponents (or counsel thereof), interested parties, and generally in supporting firm clients and referral relationships
- Building business for the firm through growing current client relationships, attending and representing the firm at events, and other business development strategies
Initial Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000 per year (based on experience)
Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
