Position Overview
As a Custom Window Treatment Installer, you are the final touchpoint in every project and one of the most important representatives of Designer Draperies of Boston. You are responsible for delivering a flawless installation while providing an exceptional customer experience that reflects our commitment to quality, professionalism, and craftsmanship.
This role requires someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in precision, communicates professionally with designers and homeowners, and understands that every installation is an opportunity to reinforce the trust our clients place in us.
Our installers don't simply hang draperies—they deliver a premium, white-glove installation experience that leaves every client confident they chose the right workroom.
What You'll Do
A typical day may include:
Installation & Customer Experience
- Travel to residential and commercial job sites in a company-provided vehicle.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload custom window treatments, hardware, and installation equipment.
- Review project details and installation plans prior to arriving on-site.
- Install custom draperies, Roman shades, interior shutters, decorative hardware, motorized window treatments, valances, cornices, and other custom soft furnishings.
- Perform detailed adjustments and fine-tuning to ensure every treatment hangs perfectly, operates smoothly, and meets Designer Draperies of Boston's quality standards.
- Troubleshoot installation challenges while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship.
- Conduct a final quality inspection before leaving each project.
White-Glove Client Service
- Provide an exceptional white-glove installation experience for every designer and homeowner.
- Treat every client's home with the utmost care, professionalism, and respect.
- Protect flooring, furniture, walls, and surrounding finishes throughout the installation.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace while on-site.
- Professionally communicate with designers, homeowners, contractors, and other trades.
- Represent Designer Draperies of Boston with integrity, professionalism, and courtesy at every installation.
- Leave every installation cleaner than you found it by vacuuming, removing packaging materials, disposing of trash, and ensuring the space is ready for client enjoyment.
Workroom Support
When not performing installations, assist the workroom with:
- Mounting shade motors and stringing shades.
- Cutting and inventorying wood.
- Organizing inventory and maintaining workspaces.
- Assisting with fabrication support as needed.
- General shop organization, maintenance, trash removal, and cleanliness.
- Loading and preparing future installations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience using hand and power tools.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and installation drawings.
- Ability to safely operate ladders (high ladders and scaffolding) and installation equipment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and accountable.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of installation experience (window treatments, finish carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, construction, or related trades).
- Experience installing motorized shades or custom window treatments.
- Comfortable using drills, impact drivers, laser levels, and other installation tools.
- Ability to solve problems independently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Comfortable interacting with interior designers and high-end residential clients.
- Willingness to travel throughout New England, including infrequent overnight stays and limited air travel (less than 25%) as needed.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb and safely work on ladders of varying heights.
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, kneel, stretch, walk, sit, and work overhead.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity in hands, arms, and shoulders.
- Ability to safely handle tools, equipment, and installation materials.
- Comfortable working in residential homes, commercial spaces, and active construction environments.
Compensation
Hourly to start, based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.
