Overview
Sequoia Machine Works is looking for an experienced CNC Mill Operator / Machinist to join our growing precision machining team.
This position is ideal for someone with solid CNC milling experience who can set up and operate CNC mills, read blueprints, make tooling and offset adjustments, inspect their own work, and troubleshoot routine machining issues.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing quality parts, works well with a team, and understands the importance of accuracy and consistency in a precision machining environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision machined components.
- Read and understand blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and basic GD&T requirements.
- Select, install, and change cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding as required.
- Set and adjust tool and work offsets.
- Make appropriate adjustments to feeds, speeds, and cutting tools to maintain part quality.
- Monitor machining operations and identify tool wear or other process issues.
- Troubleshoot routine machining and production problems.
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Verify parts meet drawing specifications and tolerances throughout production.
- Report nonconforming parts or process concerns to the Production Lead or Quality.
- Complete work orders and required production documentation accurately.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and keep machines and work areas clean and organized.
- Follow established safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
- Support continuous improvement of machining and production processes.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of CNC machining experience preferred, with CNC milling experience strongly preferred.
- Experience performing CNC machine setups and operating CNC mills.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including calipers and micrometers.
- Understanding of cutting tools, tool wear, feeds, speeds, and basic machining principles.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine machining problems and make appropriate adjustments.
- Basic shop math skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision once trained.
- Good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Must meet U.S. Person requirements under ITAR.
Preferred, but not required
- Experience with Haas CNC milling machines.
- Experience editing G-code at the machine.
- Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis machining.
- Experience with CAM software.
- Experience with CMM or other advanced inspection equipment.

You don't need to be a CNC programmer or know every aspect of machining, but you should have a solid CNC foundation, be comfortable working from prints, understand how to inspect your work, and be willing to continue developing your machining skills.

Pay: $35.14 - $40.00 per hour
