Bar America is a locally owned San Antonio bar located in the heart of Southtown. Originally established in 1942, we're a longtime neighborhood bar with a loyal following, a diverse crowd, and a mix of regulars, tourists, game-day crowds, and busy downtown weekends.
We're not looking for someone who just knows how to make drinks. We're looking for an experienced bartender who knows how to handle a busy bar, take care of guests, and work as part of a team.
About the Job:
We're currently hiring an experienced bartender with a minimum of 2 years of bartending experience.
Our ideal bartender understands the balance of working in a neighborhood dive bar. You should be comfortable chatting with regulars, engaging in friendly banter, and making guests feel at home when things are slower. But when volume hits, you know when to cut the chit-chat, pick up the pace, and hustle.
We're also looking for someone who is confident and self-sufficient behind the bar. You should be comfortable using good judgment, handling situations as they come up, and solving problems without needing constant direction. We trust our bartenders to think on their feet and handle themselves professionally.
You must be available to work Saturday nights AND Sunday nights. Please do not apply if you are unavailable for either of these shifts.
This position is currently for weekend shifts at Bar America, but there may be opportunities for the right person to cross-train at our other locations and pick up additional hours or shifts.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Providing friendly, efficient service in a fast-paced bar environment
- Preparing beer, cocktails, and mixed drinks accurately and consistently
- Managing multiple guests and orders while maintaining a sense of urgency
- Handling cash and POS transactions accurately
- Keeping the bar clean, stocked, and organized throughout your shift
- Restocking beer, liquor, ice, and supplies as needed
- Following TABC regulations and responsible alcohol service practices
- Completing opening, closing, and cleaning duties
- Communicating with management, barbacks, and fellow bartenders to keep service running smoothly
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum 2 years of bartending experience required
- Must be available Saturday nights and Sunday nights
- Current TABC Certification required
- Current Food Handler's Certification required
- Confident and self-sufficient behind the bar
- Able to use good judgment and think on your feet
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable engaging with guests and regulars
- Able to recognize when it's time to shift gears and prioritize speed and efficiency
- Strong communication and multitasking skills
- Takes cleanliness and organization seriously
- Works well as part of a team
- Reliable transportation to and from work
