What You'll Do
The Dental Assistant / Front Office Assistant is responsible for supporting the dentist and clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care while assisting with the daily administrative functions of the practice. This position provides chairside assistance, prepares treatment rooms, takes radiographs and impressions, and assists with denture and implant procedures as permitted by state regulations. In addition, the role supports front office operations including patient scheduling, insurance processing, treatment coordination, financial discussions, and patient communication.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment before and after patient procedures.
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures, including extractions, dentures, implants, and oral surgery as permitted by state regulations.
- Take digital radiographs and dental impressions.
- Provide post-operative instructions and educate patients on prescribed home care.
- Sterilize instruments and maintain OSHA, CDC, and infection control standards.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
- Ensure treatment rooms remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Front Office Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide an outstanding first impression.
- Answer incoming calls and assist patients with scheduling, treatment questions, financing, and office policies.
- Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments to maximize provider efficiency.
- Check patients in and out while maintaining an efficient patient flow.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Submit insurance claims and assist with claim follow-up, appeals, payment posting, and denial management.
- Discuss treatment plans, financial arrangements, and financing options, including CareCredit.
- Collect patient payments and maintain accurate financial records.
- Maintain accurate patient information using Dentrix or other practice management software.
General Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming patient experience.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with ordering, stocking, and maintaining office and clinical supplies.
- Support office opening, closing, and daily housekeeping responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical and administrative teams to ensure efficient office operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Active Dental Assistant certification (where required by state law).
- Active Dental Radiology/X-ray certification
- Minimum one (1) year of dental assisting experience, preferably with dentures and/or implants.
- Previous dental front office or dental receptionist experience preferred.
- Experience scheduling patients in a dental practice.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and treatment planning.
- Experience with dental insurance verification, benefit review, claim submission, payment posting, pre-authorizations, appeals, claim follow-up, and patient financial communication.
- Experience using Dentrix preferred.
- CareCredit experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dental office.
- Positive attitude with a team-first mindset.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a clinical environment with exposure to standard dental hazards while following established safety protocols.
