Duties
- Provide one-on-one support to a preschool child diagnosed with autism, implementing individualized strategies aligned with their IEP (Individualized Education Program).
- Assist with classroom activities, including literacy, math, and curriculum-based lessons, ensuring the child’s active participation and engagement.
- Support behavioral management through positive reinforcement techniques and consistent behavior intervention strategies.
- Facilitate communication using tools such as American Sign Language or other augmentative communication methods as appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, special education staff, therapists, and families to develop and adapt lesson plans that meet the child's evolving needs.
- Offer physical assistance for daily routines and classroom mobility, ensuring safety and comfort during activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information while documenting progress and observations in accordance with best practices and legal requirements.
Requirements
- Experience working with children in early childhood education settings, especially those with disabilities or developmental delays.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) support strategies and behavior management techniques tailored for young learners.
- Familiarity with special education practices, including IEP development and implementation, classroom support in special education environments, and behavior intervention plans.
- Proficiency in communication skills such as verbal expression, active listening, and American Sign Language is highly desirable.
- Background in childhood development theories, Montessori or Reggio Emilia philosophies preferred; experience with curriculum development is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while handling confidential information responsibly.
- Physical ability to assist children during classroom activities and routines; patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude are essential.
