Student Life Mentor
- Participates in development of students’ Service Plans and works on the service team to ensure positive progress toward students’ established goals;
- Ensures students' practice of appropriate personal care, independent living skills, social skills, etc.;
- Ensures that students learn and practice proper social skills; to include proper language, table manners, respect for females, etc.;
- Provides necessary guidance and counseling;
- Encourages students in their religious faith; models and teaches appropriate moral and ethical standards;
- Student Life MentorOversees adherence to cottage rules and regulations and strives to create a positive, nurturing environment;
- Maintains discipline within the program;
- Sets broad but firm limits, shows trust for students within reasonable limits until they show themselves in need of close supervision, allows students to learn from their mistakes when they do not endanger their own wellbeing;
- Directly involved in the students' academic progress; meets with teachers, supervises study halls, approves academic schedules, and arranges tutoring when necessary;
- Teaches students proper work skills and supervises work program area assigned;
- Ensures that all boys within the cottage show proper respect for BOYS’ HOME staff, property, personal property, and the property of others;
- Uses established procedures regarding accountability and location of students;
- Works cooperatively with team members and seeks help, guidance, and assistance from fellow staff members as considered necessary and important;
- Seeks advice or makes appropriate referrals to qualified staff members regarding students' emotional and physical health problems;
- Works with other team members to provide appropriate recreational opportunities for students; is involved with and attends, when possible, activities that a student may participate in outside of the team (Scouts, athletic events, choir, etc.);
- Performs written communication and documentation to include daily logs, changeover notes, medical distribution notes, serious incident reports, etc., regarding students;
- Performs related tasks as required.
MUST HAVE A CLEAR DRIVING RECORD IN ORDER TO TRANSPORT STUDENTS AND BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD.
Work schedule is 4 days on/ 4 days off.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Shall possess one of the following:
- Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in human services;
- Have an associates degree and three months experience working with children;
- Have a high school diploma or General Education Development Certificate and have six months of experience working with children.

Pay: $25,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
